Music News - Music event at National Library

14 May 2013 - 0 Comments

The music of protest – with a distinctly punk flavour – gets dissected by a panel of experts at the National Library in Molesworth Street this Friday (17 May), followed by live music.

The guest speakers will include punk rocker, label owner and all-round music guru Simon Grigg; artist, punk aficionado and senior design lecturer Kerry Ann Lee; and historian and journalist Redmer Yska.

Music will be provided by the Wellington Sea Shanty Society.

The event is a precursor to the opening of Revolting! a new exhibition at the Library’s Turnbull Gallery, featuring New Zealand protest music and related items from the Library’s collections, including posters, photographs and album covers (opens 27 May.)

Entry is free and the Library’s licensed café HOME will remain open for the duration.

Event: Protest Music Aotearoa – Tales of Resistance and Rebellion

Venue: Ground Floor, National Library, Molesworth St, Wellington

Time: 6-8pm, Friday 17 May
