Satellite Media today announces that it has sold its iconic music title Rip It Up, to Grant Hislop of Hark Entertainment.
Whilst Rip It Up has been an important part of the Satellite portfolio for the past 12 years, the focus moving forward is on Satellite’s thriving business in digital and TV.
Founded in 1977 by Murray Cammick, Rip It Up has been an integral part of the New Zealand music and pop culture landscape, growing from its free newsprint origins, to the magazine it is today.
Owned and published by Satellite since 2001, Rip It Up has celebrated many highs; from the Otis Frizzell original Fat Freddy’s Drop cover, to its Editor of the Year and Magazine of the Year (youth category in 2011) awards.
‘It’s been an incredible journey and over that time we’ve been privileged to work with a highly talented bunch of writers, contributors, editors and artists,’ said Nikki Streater, GM of Satellite.
‘We’re delighted to see the magazine that we love move to a great new home with Grant and his team, and look forward to seeing it thrive for another 36 years.’
With a staff of 40, Satellite will continue to work with its business partners to develop innovative content led solutions across web, mobile, retail, signage, television and event activations.
