Music News - Off The Radar Festival

Off The Radar Festival

03 January 2014 - 0 Comments

This is the official press release of the OFF THE RADAR Festival crew. We actually didn't want to to do this, but given that so many lovely Kiwis encouraged us to publicly tell our story - Here we go...

Well, with respect to prominency our line-up can certainly not keep up with most established festivals here in New Zealand. Our first attempts to distribute flyers in Auckland left behind numerous people with puzzled faces. However what spread the word pretty fast within the music scene was the rumour that a massive crew -with extensive experience in independent festivals, such as the Fusion Festival in Germany- from northern Europe arrived with a 40 ft container to establish a new festival!

The question 'why' is answered quickly... because we wanted to have a go at globalisation ourselves – DIY is the cue! You know... this idea of DIY is for most of our crew and booked artists the driving force behind their creations - it connects and mobilizes powers.

In reality this means that over 50 overseas artists and helpers have booked their air fares at their own expenses to be part of this project in cooperation with like-minded local crews.

At this point “money doesn't matter” literally finds a new implication. We consequently decline any commercial sponsoring while having been declined all public funds we applied for. Probably because our venture is too freaky and we don't fit any boxes. Therefore everything set up so far has been solely privately funded.

But now aside with what everything always revolves around anyway - moving on from money and...going off the radar.

At the end of the day it is about creating a 3-day-event on which people can merge with and express themselves in a space free of every-day-crap.... even more it is about a collaborative effort of building bridges around the globe, from the US to Germany to New Zealand.

Last but not least some hard facts:

The musical lineup is a mixture of Indie, Hip Hop, Drum´n´Bass, Folk, Blues and all kinds of "off the radar" stuff. Kinetic and visual artists will transform the festival location into one of a kind playground.

The festival location has a capacity for about 3000 visitors that has been confirmed and permitted by the Council. Free camping is available right next to the main festival site. Tickets are available online from undertheradar.co.nz as well as Conch Records in Auckland.

Three stages will be hosting a lineup of about 30 artists. The dancefloor decoration, lighting and booking will be planned by our partners "End Of The Line" from Auckland.

Additional innovative light and stage design will be created by an arstist collective called Klappen, as well as the visual artist Dieselqueen from Germany. Huge kinetic and fire art installations by Swiss artist Maja Explosiv completes the unique environment.

Music Lineup:

Astronautalis, BJ Morriszonkle, Blades, Capatain Morgan, Cooper, Daedalus, Dale Rohan, Daniel Willhelm, Eeleenee, Fiord, Formidable Vegetable Soundsystem & Mal Webb, H.Heh, Inventive, Logan Baker, Made For Chicken By Robots, Marcus Carp & Sista Lexa, Mice On Stilts, Mobby, Monster Zoku Onsomb!, Nico Stojan, Night Gaunts, Orchestra Of Spheres, Organikismness, Roofdog, Sheep Dog & Wolf, Simon Darling, Sole, Soulflex, The Impossible No Goods, The MurderChord, TREi, Yelow, West Coast Bullies
