Auckland indie popsters, Lightning Bells are pleased to announce the release of their new single Wake Up (Don’t Settle), a taster from their forthcoming EP Chime, out March 21st.
The song was inspired by front man, Christy Whelan’s burning desire to shake the monotony of the daily grind, find some fire and take hold of fresh opportunities.
Beginning acoustically with the delicate harmonies of siblings Christy and Emily, the song suddenly breaks into a jangly electric riff like a realization, Christy’s gravelly plaintive chorus permeating the psyche.
After recording the single at The Lab studios, the offbeat video concept was developed with the help of fellow eccentric, James Biddick and brought to life by director, Daniel Fowler of Fowlface Productions, Jan Ubels (set designer at the NZ Opera Company) & make up artist, Yolanda Bartram (Bodyfx).
The video showcases the band's cheeky side as the serious theme of ‘seizing the day’ is eventually twisted into a motto “If life gives you eggs, sell them”.
