Music News - 2003 Silver Scroll Winners Announced

2003 Silver Scroll Winners Announced
muzic.net.nz would like to congratulate all Silver Scroll Winners!

29 October 2003 - 0 Comments

Appearing to 'collect' their APRA Silver Scroll via video from their current tour of the UK, Nesian Mystik last night added artistic honours to their already bulging collection of critical and commercial plaudits.

The songwriting prize went to the group for their 'For The People', written by Donald McNulty, Te Awanui Reeder, Junior Rikiau, David Atai and Feleti Strickson-Pua - who were unfortunately not there to hear the rapturously received 'lounge' version of the song by Tim Beveridge.

It is an annual tradition that each of the nominated songs be performed by other artists, usually in a radically reinterpreted style. Other performances included Augustino rocking up Ill Semantics' 'The Highway', SJD and Heather Mansfield (Brunettes) doing Damien Binder's 'Til Now', Anika Moa and Anna Coddington adding a dash of reggae to 'Riverhead' by Goldenhorse, and goth-industrial chanteuse Jordan Reyne (accompanied by the giant Auckland Town Hall pipe organ) doing 'Phlex' by Blindspott.

In other awards handed out on the night, Neil Finn invited someone to "please take this off me next year" as 'Don't Dream It's Over' once again collected the award for the Most Performed NZ Work Internationally. The Most Performed NZ Work in New Zealand went to Goldenhorse for 'Maybe Tomorrow'.

Ngahiwi Apanui won the inaugural APRA Maioha Award (for songs in te reo Maori) for his song 'Wharikihia'.

The Sounz Contemporary Award was won by Gillian Whitehead for 'Alice'.
