Music News - Film and television music awards to be added to the APRA Silver Scroll Awards

Film and television music awards to be added to the APRA Silver Scroll Awards

15 May 2014 - 0 Comments

Two new awards recognising the achievements of New Zealand’s film and television composers are being added to the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Awards - APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film and APRA Best Original Music in a Series.

The APRA Silver Scroll Awards are an annual ceremony that celebrates the achievements of New Zealand’s songwriters and composers. “The addition of these awards is a milestone for us” says APRA AMCOS’ Director of NZ Operations, Anthony Healey. “Film and television composers are a large and active part of our membership, and we are pleased to be able to recognise their achievements through the presentation of these awards”

While traditionally the awards are hosted in Auckland, this year they will be held in Wellington. “I'm delighted that the APRA Silver Scroll Awards are making a return to Wellington and welcome the addition of the new awards celebrating music for screen” says Mayor Celia Wade-Brown. “It is the perfect location for the inaugural presentation of the awards given the capital’s special relationship with film”.

In addition to the two new awards, the following will also be presented on the night:

· The APRA Silver Scroll Award, recognising excellence in popular music
· The APRA Maioha Award, recognising excellence in Maori music
· The SOUNZ Contemporary Award, recognising excellence in contemporary composition
· The Most Played New Zealand Works in New Zealand and Internationally

The night also includes an induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.

Entries for all awards open on Monday 19th May.  Entry forms will be available from the APRA AMCOS website: http://www.apra-amcos.co.nz/.

The 49th annual APRA Silver Scroll Awards will be held on Thursday 30th October at the TSB Arena in Wellington.  The awards are kindly supported by Wellington City Council and Yealands Family Wines.
