Welcome to the third line-up announcement for the 2004 BIG DAY OUT. We have gathered the crème de la crème of local acts, plus a coupla artists from offshore, bringing some exciting extra touches to our electric and eclectic festival force. Come and celebrate 10 years with us!
Following a successful NZ tour, worldwide acclaim, and the release of their new single ‘Move Over’, the classic pop-rock sound of BETCHADUPA adds a youthful flavour to the 2004 lineup. There is no messing with West Auckland heavy metal monsters 8 FOOT SATIVA. When they hit the main stage at full throttle they are guaranteed to bring their own special brand of metal madness to the BIG DAY OUT.
Defiantly original, definitively hip-hop, please put your hands in the air for the DEFINITIVE JUX COLLECTIVE featuring AESOP ROCK and MR LIF. Described as being so far underground it requires a degree in archaeology, AESOP ROCK and MR LIF bring their innovative New York styles while brilliantly avoiding the pitfalls of vacuous bling-drones and "real hip-hop" whiners. DJ DICK JOHNSON, also known as Magik Johnson and Troffman, one of the UK’s most-loved DJs has now made Auckland his home and continues to create fresh house beats with a unique sound – he’ll be in the tent.
7-piece live down-beat dub jazz ensemble FAT FREDDY’S DROP wing their way from the Capital to the Auckland BIG DAY OUT to contribute a live extravaganza which’ll make you wanna sway your hips in a left-to-right motion. ‘We are DEJA VOODOO’ … apparently they rock more than you do - so you’d better check them out when they go absolutely crazy on the Green Stage.
Has it been a long time coming, or does it just feel that way? Experience that big synth bass, the mighty kick drum – and you know it’s been worth the wait. PNAU, with a brand new album ‘Again’, are back in the Boiler Room. Noiseniks on the block with an excellent racket, THE COOLIES are all-girl killer-punk rockstars making their BDO debut. On the back of their new album ‘Collider’ and fantastic rock single ‘Precious’, Julia Deans and her rock band FUR PATROL come home for a glitz-fuelled riff-heavy power-pop set.
And to round out the full line-up, we have STERIOGRAM, ZED, THE BLEEDERS, SHAPESHIFTER, DJ SIR-VERE’S MAJOR FLAVOURS SHOWCASE, ILL SEMANTICS, DJ CXL, VERSE TWO, EMCEE LUCIA, FAST CREW, DJ LOGIKAL & DJ DVS (USA) and FRONTLINE
