Beastwars are excited to announce they are joining forces with Windhand (Relapse Records, USA) for four New Zealand shows this October.
Due to huge demand, these dates have been added to the bands' Australian tour where they're coheadlining the annual Doomsday Festival.
This is a unique opportunity to see world class doom on a local stage and is not to be missed.
When Blood Becomes Fire, the second album by New Zealand sludge metal fourpiece Beastwars was released in April 2013, only Michael Buble stood between the band and a chart topping triumph. Still, a #2 selling album proved that fans were in step with Beastwars and their one steadfast maxim: Obey the Riff.
The Wellington band have received five-star critical acclaim worldwide for their two full length releases but live is where they are at their most potent with Beat Magazine noting "I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a crowd lose their minds in such a manner" and Faster Louder proclaiming them as "the best metal act in the southern hemisphere right now".
Windhand combine lumbering, monolithic doom with psychedelic, stoner rock. The ethereal vocals of Dorthia Cottrell – described by Rolling Stone as sounding like “she's singing them from another realm, breaking through some gauze of reality” – mesh perfectly with the band’s twin guitar assail and heavy rhythm section to compelling effect.
The quintet hails from the East Coast of the USA (Richmond, Virginia), has toured the US several times (with the likes of Sleep, High On Fire, Kvelertak, Red Fang, Dead Meadow and more) and most recently completed a comprehensive European tour leaving audiences at festivals such as Roadburn (Netherlands) and Heavy Days (Denmark) eager to spread the word about Windhand’s audacious talent.
The outfit’s second album, Soma (Relapse Records), released in September 2013, has been met with much acclaim. The Obelisk declared the album to be “One of the year’s best in doom, hands down.” While Rolling Stone ranked it as the third best metal album of 2013.
In association with 666 Entertainment, Doomsday Festival, Heathen Skulls and http://www.undertheradar.co.nz/, Beastwars are proud to present Windhand in New Zealand for the first time.
