Music News - Terry McBride joins CONTROL: The Business Of Music Management

04 September 2014 - 0 Comments

It is with great pleasure that the Music Managers Forum NZ welcome Terry McBride as an adviser to CONTROL. A dynamic five-stage programme designed to assist music managers from Australia and New Zealand to grow their businesses, CONTROL will be held near Sydney from 23-26 November 2014.

Terry McBride is the current CEO and one of three founders of the Nettwerk Music Group, the umbrella company for Canada’s largest independent record label - Nettwerk Records, Nettwerk Management, Nettwerk Producer Management, Nettwerk One Publishing and Artwerks. The influential organisation has offices in Vancouver, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg and London, and since its inception, has released over 600 albums and sold over 160 million albums worldwide with artists: Avril Lavigne, Coldplay, Dido, Fun, Wanting, Passenger and Sarah McLachlan. He is a two-time recipient of the Pollstar Industry Award for Personal Manager of the Year for his work with Sarah McLachlan, Avril Lavigne and Coldplay and has received the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award, for his contributions to the Canadian music industry.

Terry joins six music and business advisers over the CONTROL programme, including Paul McKessar (Manager of Brooke Fraser, The Naked and Famous, Lydia Cole, Breaks Co-op) and Correne Wilkie (Manager of The Cat Empire, Jackson Jackson, Harry James Angus), who will work with participants on their leadership skills and business models.

CONTROL will provide participants with practical business guidance. It will include a comprehensive review of the different business models found in the contemporary music sector, as well as deep analysis of each business model brought to the lab. This will be the first time that managers from New Zealand will also take part in the programme.

“CONTROL is really a business development retreat,” said Denise Foley - Chair, AMIN.  “The process challenges participants, but in a constructive way. Alumni report that it not only changes their businesses for the better, but their lives as well.”

Well known trans-Tasman artist and music manager Tom Larkin (Shihad) also credits CONTROL with sharpening his business model. “Advisers were excellent and gave really good insights. I’ve been reaping the benefits for over a year and working smarter, not harder.”  (Manager of Cairo Knife Fight, Calling All Cars, Strangers, The Butterfly Effect, The Sinking Teeth, The Studios In The City)

CONTROL application forms and guidelines are available from the AMIN, AAM and MMF NZ websites (http://www.amin.org.au/ ; http://www.mmf.co.nz/http://www.aam.org.au/)

For your application to be considered you must be a member of MMF NZ. Please join here

Applications close 29 September 2014.

The programme is presented by the Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN), and supported by Australian Association (AAM) and the Music Managers Forum of New Zealand (MMF NZ). Funding has been provided by the Australian Government and the New Zealand Music Commission.
