From Whole Worlds Watching to Upokohue, to House of Strife (featuring guest artist Don McGlashan), Moana & the Tribe will be playing their entire album for the first time. They would love you to join them for this special occasion.
Rima is the 5th major album from Moana and was co-written and produced by Paddy Free (Pitch Black, Nga Tae, Moana & the Tribe).
Just back from Scotland, Moana & the Tribe is a band itching to show off their new Dub-soul-Haka grooves repertoire live at Galatos on the 28th September.
Described by the NZ Herald as a ‘main stage standout’ at WOMAD NZ, drummer Micky Ututaonga in collusion with dubster Paddy Free help deliver a more energetic yet sometimes brooding pulse under the voices of Moana and her sister Trina. And with the unique combination of live haka, it’s little wonder this kaupapa-driven, NZ roots style has taken Moana & the Tribe all around the world. Now, the band is bringing it all back home.
Before and after her band plays, Moana will introduce two young acts she’s keeping her eye on, young reggae band Ihi and soloist T.K.
Ihi is a young reggae band whose founders met through Nga Tauira Maori at Auckland University. Now duo of Thomas Rawiri (singer) and Mokoia Huata (guitar) has morphed into a 6 piece band with their former student president Kimiora Jackson, managing them.
T.K is a 20 year old with the voice of a 40 year old, the kind that stops you in your tracks. Crafting his original songs and being mentored by the likes of Warren Maxwell and Tama Waipara, Te Karehana Gardiner-Toi is one to watch.
