It was the battle of Palmerston North at the top of the http://www.audience.co.nz's/ Wildcard Funding Chart for September, with two young local groups vying for the top spot. Despite an incredibly close contest, it was the genre bending reggae-inspired ReZist who managed to claim top spot with their song Lockdown. They gained an unprecedented amount of support, pulling in massive numbers of votes to win the $10,000 Wildcard Making Tracks grant from NZ On Air Music. They only just managed to top fellow Palmy locals Venus In Transit, who also ran a huge campaign with their song Rescue Me, but couldn’t quite catch up with the ReZist boys.
Speaking to theaudience.co.nz after their win, ReZist say they are over the moon with the result. “For a young band like us this is the most amazing opportunity, and makes us feel like all the hard work is paying off. At the moment we're letting it all sink in, and are still overwhelmed.”
For a new and young band to gather such a huge amount of support for this month’s chart was incredible, and a testament to their strong local base. ReZist recognise the contribution from all of their supporters. “Thank you to everyone who stuck with us from the beginning, and those who joined along the way, we literally wouldn't have done it without your support. To theaudience.co.nz, thank you for this huge opportunity. And to everyone else out there, ReZist is coming for you!”
As for Venus In Transit, they’ve also heaped praise on the people involved in their September campaign, and are vowing to give it another crack for October. “We just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone over the last month for supporting us on theaudience.co.nz. We are so blessed and encouraged by how many of you voted, played our song and shared it with your friends everyday!”
