The first full-length album from
The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra
due for release November 7th
Making great Kiwi songs even more singalongable, the wildly popular Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra have created a classic soundtrack for the coming New Zealand summer, perfect for barbecues, baches and beverage-o’clock and it's available TODAY!
Their first ever full length album – Be Mine Tonight – is released on iTunes and via all good record stores and in celebration the band are heading on the road to tour New Zealand… the first show at Glenroy Auditorium in Dunedin this Saturday 8th November.
Named after the classic song by Th’ Dudes, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra’s album Be Mine Tonight pays homage to great songwriters and performers from the past 100 years of NZ music, from Princess Te Rangi Pai’s 1907 lullaby Hine e Hine (the “Goodnight Kiwi song”) to Lorde’s 2013 mega-hit Team. Wake Up is of course Aaradhna’s hit single, and Today Is Gonna Be Mine comes from Dunedin legend David Kilgour.
In addition to the outstanding set of recordings, the band’s stage show is famous for madcap hilarity and spontaneous audience participation. Behind the hijinks is a finely-tuned musical group who have truly cemented their place on New Zealand’s entertainment scene. Their unique sound – a choir of gorgeous voices set to magnificent ukulele riffs and licks – is now in hot demand worldwide.
Between tours of China, Japan and the USA the band will tour Be Mine Tonight around New Zealand. They are joined by regular guest-star Amanda Billing (Shortland Street’s recently departed Sarah Potts), whose impressive vocal skills feature all over the album. Other guests on the album include Wellington singer Lisa Tomlins, acclaimed Canadian ukulele star James Hill, and Hawaiian ukulele maestro Pi’ikea Clark. Be Mine Tonight was engineered in Wellington by Neil Maddever and produced by Age Pryor.
