RE-ISSUE CLUB - Episode 2: 90's Nun
Flying Nun Records are pleased to announce pre-orders for an extended double LP edition of Garageland - Last Exit To Garageland/Come Back Special EP, titled More Exits To Garageland.
Auckland's Garageland made a big splash with their debut EP Come Back Special in August 1995. The BFM favourites came out with five fresh pop songs that suggested a new wave of musicians were clutching the classic Flying Nun catalogue for inspiration and taking off to the garage to jam.
With their guitars turned up to warm reverb and tossing off words not just with the lazy abandon, but in the way that great NZ bands have always mumbled through a catchy tune, Garageland were mining a rich musical vein.
The band released their full-length debut, Last Exit to Garageland, in 1996 which broke into the Top Five on the New Zealand album charts. The Auckland-based band then moved to England in early 1997.
Jeremy Eade from Garageland says of the recordings:
"Between 1992-1995 we recorded five bunches of songs. The biggest bunch being the 20 songs we recorded for the album and single b-sides.
The collection of all these songs together is, I feel, a much more natural sample of our output. The “Last Exit” line-up was a case of taking 12 songs from a bunch of random recordings.
I can’t remember how it was done and there were many debates afterwards about material we left off, especially considering we had to tour the thing for two years."
Pre-Order/Crowd-Fund the new More Exits To Garageland HERE
More Exits To Garageland is part of our new Re-Issue Club (or Ric as we sometimes call it).
The first episode of the club features FOUR crowd funded Flying Nun vinyl re-issue projects. We are announcing one record each day this week, until Friday October 10, when they all go on sale. As well as pre-ordering them individually, they are also be available as a special discounted bundle.
Unlike most of the recent Flying Nun reissues - all four of these albums were originally released during the 1990s, and one has never been pressed to vinyl before.
The albums will all be double LPs with plenty of B-sides, out-takes and previously unreleased bonus material. Once we have 100 pre-orders of each album, Flying Nun will put them into production.
