FLYING OUT,
BONE SOUP & 95bFM PRESENT:
THE COURTNEYS
All the way from Vancouver, Canada - The
Courtneys - have announced a series of shows in
New Zealand this March.
Drifting back to the sound of the early ’90s while reflecting a fun-in-the-sun
West Coast mentality, the 3-piece band will deliver
their special blend of fuzzy slacker pop with four shows in
Auckland and Wellington from March 6-9.
Influenced by the likes of Eddy Current Suppression Ring and New Zealand's own
Flying Nun bands, their 2013 self-titled eight track album is alive with
fuzzed-up, clever pop that makes for the prefect soundtrack to summer.
Their musicianship is tight, the hooks are sharp, and the song craft is
dynamic, with the band having spent much of 2014 touring the USA with twin pop
icons Tegan
& Sara.
The Courtneys have a special air that makes you want to be apart of their world
and despite being named after the “mean girls” at bassist Koke's
elementary school — “they
were all called Courtney or Colleen, and had parties that I was never invited
to” — their vibe is more a cool gang than too-cool
clique.
“These
eight up beat songs beg to soundtrack the highs and lows of summertime” - Pitchfork
