Fresh from the release of his 10th solo album 5 A Day written and recorded in London, New Zealand music legend Nathan Haines and his 6 piece band will bring elements of soul, hip-hop, R&B, reggae, funk and jazz to Wellington’s San Fran on Friday 10 April.
London based for over 20 years and one of New Zealand’s best known international instrumentalist exports, Nathan collaborated with Marc Mac, one half of legendary UK production duo 4hero to produce a new album which draws on classic soul and dance music influences. Nathan and production partner Mike Patto (also the keyboardist in Nathan’s live UK/Europe band) also recorded, engineered and mixed the album themselves, breaking every rule in the book on their 3 month recording journey in rural Buckinghamshire.
Being the winner of three New Zealand Music Awards (most recently Jazz Album of the Year for both 2013 & 2014) and with two certified Gold albums in New Zealand, Nathan has always been big on collaboration - and for this show London based Kevin Mark Trail, singer for the UK band The Streets will be on vocal duties.
Joining them is Nathan’s brother Joel Haines, known as “the guitarist’s guitarist”, having worked with over the years Tim Finn, Human Instinct and latterly Cairo Knife Fight, plus Shapeshifter's drummer Darren Mathiassen, Hollie Smith’s bassist Marika Hodgson, and Michal Martyniuk on keyboards.
“5 A Day is a genre-blurring masterstroke that puts Haines firmly back in the 21st century” - Graham Reid, NZ Herald
“An incredible musical banquet which will satisfy jazz-pop and R&B devotees” - M2 magazine
