Written and recorded over three countries and two continents, The Colossus is the
debut album from Cairo
Knife Fight.
The Colossus sees frontman Nick
Gaffaney (a man who has drummed for many of New Zealand’s
leading songwriters) expanding his writing horizons to include working with a
revolving cast of some of the most accomplished guitarists and songwriters
from around the globe. From New Zealand musicians Aaron Tokona, Joel Haines, Laughton Kora and William Knapp,
American Legend Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of The Stone Age)
and Los Angeles producers/musicians Tyler
Fournames (Marilyn
Manson) and John
Anderson (Banks).
This diversity in writing partners has seen an album develop of great subtlety
and dynamism while still maintaining that fierce and razor sharp intensity Cairo Knife Fight is
known for.
“Written with and influenced
by a number of extraordinarily talented friends from all over the world - some
of whom I hadn't even met when the process started- it's a genuine culmination of all
the experiences Cairo
Knife Fighthas had, but also a launchpad to the band's future musical direction"
And speaking of talent, joining Nick for this run of NZ release shows is
American, Grammy Award-winning guitarist, songwriter and producer GEORGE PAJON JR. who
in addition to being one of Black
Eyed Peas’ key performing and recording
musicians , has co-written many of the group’s most popular
hits and has a list of credits that include Carlos Santana, Sting, Macy
Gray, Kelis, Nas, Damien Marley, Sérgio Mendes, July
Black, and various other artists.
The Colossus is released
in New Zealand on May 29th
