Irish singer-songwriter Andrew Hozier-Byrne
has the world at his feet with his smash hit Take Me To Church.
Hozier announces his ever first New Zealand show at Auckland’s Vector Arena on
5 November 2015.
The 25 year-old from County Wicklow only released his self-titled debut album
last year but the success of Take Me To Church has seen his passionate,
roots-based sound take off around the world. The Grammy nominated single was
2014’s most viral track on Spotify and has turned Hozier into a worldwide
sensation.
The album and world tour that has followed have revealed an artist of
consummate depth. In the grand tradition of soulful Irishmen that stretches
back to Van Morrison, Hozier is a reminder of the power of lyrics to both sound
and read like poetry to help you realise just what you are missing out on the
rest of the time.
When those lyrics are set to music that balances burning indignation with
lilting tenderness, and delivered in a voice imbued with the spiritual passion
and yearning of gospel and the blues, you figure you’ve chanced upon something
pretty special. And so it is with Hozier.
Hozier’s emotional, socially conscious stories – Church is a clear challenge
to the Catholic church’s stance on homosexuality – are packed into a sound that
Rolling Stone said ‘channelled Van Morrison’s Celtic R&B, Southern soul and
Black Keys-style garage blues into intimately roiling songs’.
This first chance to see Hozier in New Zealand already promises to be the
beginning of a compelling career.
