Little Mixtapes Records and Atlantic Records have announced the release of XX EP, the new project from New Zealand-born singer/ songwriter / multi-instrumentalist / producer Janine and The Mixtape.
The highly anticipated XX EP (released on May 22 in New Zealand) debuted in the Top 10 US, currently sitting at #3 in the US R&B/Soul charts – Her second Top 10 US debut within the last 12 months. XX EP includes half a dozen new tracks, including When I’m Broken and a scintillating cover of DMX’s Lose My Mind. Both tracks recently premiered as part of Janine’s ongoing “Little Mixtape Mondays” campaign, with music streaming now at her official SoundCloud and arresting companion visuals viewable at her YouTube channel.
XX EP arrives on the heels of last year’s acclaimed Dark Mind EP and its breakthrough remix, Hold Me(Feat. Pusha T). The original version of Hold Me has drawn more than 2.7 million plays on SoundCloud while also earning featured play on VH1’s smash reality series, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.
What’s more,Hold Me recently had its official video premiere via Complex earning rave reviews from around the online world. “Utilizing NYC’s chilling wintery landscape to compliment her lyrics,” applauded The Source, “(Janine) paints the perfect picture of the love she yearns for.” “Quickly rising as one of our current favourites,” declared 2DopeBoyz, while Mostly Junk Food praised Hold Me as an “ever-enduring jam” and the video as “another stunning, bone-chilling affair that’s fated to tuck you into bed in the lonely hour.” Hold Me can be viewed HERE.
Now based in Brooklyn, Janine and The Mixtape – known to friends and family as Janine Foster – began performing at open mic nights in her native Auckland when she was but 14 years old. She soon developed her own unique amalgam of pop, indie, R&B, and hip hop, all built around her emotional song craft, otherworldly vocals, and utterly individualistic persona. Released initially by her own Little Mixtapes Records in 2013, Dark Mind immediately shot Janine and The Mixtape into the spotlight – as well as the top 2 on the iTunes Store’s Top R&B Albums chart. The EP – which also includes the hit single/video,Little Bit (featured on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Hollywood) – received worldwide applause, with high praise coming from such outlets as MTV, Billboard, VIBE Vixen, Complex, and VIBE, which ranked Janine and The Mixtape among their “R&B Secret Society: 26 Acts You Should Be Listening To.”
A gifted visual artist and electrifying live performer, Janine has lit up the stage at countless shows across the Southern Hemisphere, including high profile festival performances in New Zealand.
