Count Basie’s 18 piece American big band is arriving in New Zealand this weekend for shows in Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland next week. This will be their first concert here in almost 40 years and is their 80th Anniversary tour!
The Count Basie Orchestra provided the sound behind some of the greatest singers of the modern age, including Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. Current members include a solid core of musicians from Benny Goodman’s and Lionel Hampton's ensembles and guest vocalist Carmen Bradford has performed with Tony Bennett, James Brown, Wynton Marsalis, Frank Sinatra and George Benson.
