Electro funk super duo, Mayer Hawthorne & Jake One are bringing their widely celebrated ‘Tuxedo’ live project on tour with an exclusive show scheduled for Auckland on 18 September at Studio.
Tuxedo is the culmination of a seven-year effort which sees Grammy- nominated renaissance man, Mayer Hawthorne and Grammy- nominated producer Jake One team up. Mayer’s last visit to the Pacific region happened way back in 2012 long before he received a Grammy nomination or toured with Bruno Mars.
His collaboration with Jake One as ‘Tuxedo’ began with an exchange of mix tapes back in 2006. The fruits of a long-standing kinship were three tracks that mysteriously showed up on Internet doorsteps nearly two years ago. These three tracks evolved into an internationally successful album, with their debut collaboration placing 14th on the Billboard chart. Album tracks Do It and Number One have enjoyed huge airplay.
To date, Tuxedo’s live outings have been the stuff of legend, with only three shows ever having been performed in their full band format. Their acclaimed DJ show has popped up at random across Europe and America in recent months, however this September brings something special. Adding to the production of their popular DJ shows, Hawthorne and One will deliver a unique live set, combining live vocals, laptops, midi triggers, turntables and effects with the duos love for electric funk in a super sonic spectacular to give you something for your mind, your body and your soul.
Tuxedo is being presented by Splore Festival as a special pre-festival party.
