Reminiscent of Americana folk greats Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, Holly Arrowsmith's captivating, earthy voice, will reach into the heart of humanity, and take you on a journey through life's joys and struggles.
Her debut album For The Weary Traveller is due
for release on July 31st and is a collection of unique
beautifully crafted songs with tastefully restrained instrumentation…timeless.
Born in the spacious desertscape of Santa Fe, New Mexico and raised in the
pristine surroundings of Queenstown, it’s no wonder Holly’s songs encompass a
reverence for nature.
For
The Weary Traveller was a title aptly chosen after Arrowsmith
and her husband lived in a van for an entire summer, travelling around the
country, taking in NZ’s beauty and meeting many colourful people - plenty of
inspirational fodder for songs on the album.
Funded in part by an AMP scholarship and a successful Kickstarter campaign, the
album was engineered at Tom Tom Productions in
Queenstown by Steve Roberts and mastered at Sterling
in NY.
At just 21 years old, Holly has already showcased The New
Zealand Country Music Awards, Rhythm And Alps and Rhythm and Vines. Last year she delivered a TEDxtalk on ‘Honest Music’, and has opened for internationally acclaimed folk
artist Rodriguez, captivating crowds with songs from her EP The
River.
“I hope my songs provide a point of view that ultimately inspires, comforts and
brings hope to people”, says Arrowsmith.
Holly and her band will be performing after Melbourne based
rock 'n' roll troubadour Skyscraper Stan and
Auckland based story singer Tom Cunliffe at The Tuning Fork on the 5th September. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster or ph 0800 111 999.
She will also be embarking on an album release tour of NZ and Australia in
October this year with American songwriter Zach Winters.
For The Weary Traveller is available for free for one week only at Noise Trade and for purchase on iTunes from July 31st and later
in the year as a limited vinyl edition.
