Rhythm and Vines is famed as one of the biggest music events in the Southern Hemisphere and the first festival in the world to welcome the sunrise of the new year. For 2015 the festival is broadening its appeal even further, with more afternoon and early evening entertainment and a wider selection of musical genres.
“Alongside the hip hop and drum and bass that have driven the crowds crazy these past few years, we will be adding everything from trap to tropical house for 2015” says festival founder, Hamish Pinkham. “With a new sound, comes further additions which are completely new to the festival, including a comedy component, new staging layout, craft beer gardens and much more.”
The team at Rhythm and Vines are extremely excited about the new direction for the festival and the talent that has been released today. “We have a couple of tricks up our sleeves that will come through in our second release towards the end of September,” says Pinkham, “but this first lineup announcement gives everyone an idea into the new look and feel for the festival.”
Legendary festival folk rock band Angus and Julia Stone will be supplying a euphonious Coachella vibe at sunset on New Year’s Eve, further playing into the languid, laid-back atmosphere of Gisborne in the height of summer.
“We’re also excited about our bass heavy music from the hottest trap show on the planet, RL Grime,” adds Pinkham, “along with teaming up with leading bass culture music brand UKF to co-curate a stage to lead the sunrise procession, which will be a first for the festival.”
Further acts include Peking Duk, who have most recently had huge successes across the Tasman and in the US, and the party-starting duo are gradually being discovered by local audiences. Slumberjack has also been making waves as one of the hottest trap exports from Australia in recent years.
To add to the incredible league of international acts with Rhythm and Vines this year, the team have added Sticky Fingers, who have most recently developed a cult following in New Zealand with their summer time ska reggae vibes, whilst Cut Snake, from pro surfers to professional DJs currently touring the US, have a deep house sound that continues to make a lasting impression on music enthusiasts internationally.
Easing the tempo back down and adding an emotive pull of nostalgia, Dave Dobbyn returns after his triumphant performance in 2012 – sure to gain an even bigger cult following #Raving4DaveDobbyn.
Kiwi music royalty Scribe will be making a rare New Zealand appearance. “We are delighted to have Scribe back at the festival after his memorable performance with us in 2007” adds Pinkham. Local bands making headlines overseas, including Concord Dawn, Jupiter Project, P-Money and David Dallas, are also back to showcase their latest offerings.
“It’s all part of our vision to provide a well rounded festival experience with something for everyone, while continuing to be a stage for Kiwi performers in all creative pursuits.”
New allocation of tickets at the tier one price of $200
Earlybird tickets were in hot demand when they were released in May, selling out within minutes. To celebrate the announcement of the first acts of the 2015 lineup, the festival has released tickets back on sale at the tier one price of $200 for today only, with the allocation expiring at midnight. Tickets will then be increased up to the tier two price of $225 for the 3-Day GA Festival pass. Camping upgrades, VIP Upgrades, Hotel/Motel Packages and Single Day tickets are also available.
