Our Songs From The South 2015

21 August 2015 - 0 Comments

Yellow Eye Ltd Dunedin presents Our Songs from the South a concert of acoustic collaboration featuring Dunedin's very own Delgirl with Invercargill’s Into The East and introducing Jake Cropley. Featuring these award winning musicians songs and yarns, this will be an extravaganza of folk, country and roots music at it's finest with a grand finale of all the performers together on stage featuring much loved songs from the South of their own and of others .

Delgirl are three multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters who play roots music, bedded in tradition but speaking of today's laughs, loves and losses in one clear voice. As performers they slip quietly into the living-room of the soul, warming it with their unaffected charm. Fluid, luminous voices meld with guitar, ukulele, banjo and stand-up bass in songs that swing with sweet-tempered ease. Delgirl landed the Recording Industry Association (RIANZ) Award for Folk Album of the Year, for their debut long player Two, Maybe Three, Days Ride in 2008.

Since busting onto the scene as a pair of Southern unknowns Graeme Woller & Liv McBride of Into The East have gathered a strong following thanks to their tight performances & crystalline sound that has been described as Fleetwood Mac with the poetic & harmonic charm of Simon & Garfunkel. Into The East have picked up nominations for Best NZ Folk Album, along with a nomination for the highly regarded Taite Music Prize, and won APRA Album Of The Year & Band Of The Year at the 2014 Southland Entertainment Awards. Best Country duo/group 2014 CMANZ.

Also thrown into the musical mix is the young Jake Cropley, another Dunedin grown artist who has only just begun his journey, accompanied only with voice and his guitar, into the world of acoustic music. As a young emerging singer/songwriter, Jake has already performed at the world renowned Celtic Connections 2015 Music Festival in Glasgow, Scotland, alongside hundreds of other artists where he had the chance to share his music and further develop the art of performing. Jake is also the winner of the Otago Secondary Schools 'Commonwealth Games Baton Songwriting Competition', with his Scottish flavoured anthem On Forever Ye Go.

The 2015 version includes new songs in a  full length fifty minute  group set which has all seven musicians on stage including new material not covered in the Otago Festival Of The Arts shows from Oct 2014.
