They are purveyors of some seriously good heavy rock. One of New Zealand's finest, most lauded and most rewarded bands are releasing their brand new single into Australia - a barrage of guitars and pounding beats entitledSyria.
Today they release their bombastic filmclip for Syria - which was directed, produced, edited and graded by band member Thom Watts. A kinetic, hectically-paced clip, it sees the band in full flight, smashing out the frantic song in muted colour and strobing lights with a grit and snarl to match the growling bassline.
The crushingly huge sound for Syria was produced by Tom Larkin (Bodyjar, High Tension, The Getaway Plan) at his Studios in the City in Melbourne, Engineered and Mixed by Samuel K (The Getaway Plan, Cairo Knife Fight, Closure in Moscow, Gatherer) and Mastered by Brian Lucey @ Magic Garden Mastering, Los Angeles, CA.
The track has been enjoying high rotation on New Zealand's biggest commercial rock radio network, The Rock FM since June 2015 and the album is expected to top their previous album's chart debut position and last night, premiered in Australia on Triple J's The Racket with Lochlan Watt.
The four-piece, signed to Warner New Zealand, again worked with their long time collaborator Tom Larkin on Syria. The track is a huge taste-test of what is to come on their second Long-Player Dead Sight. Larkin also worked with the band on their debutMode.Set.Clear in 2012, which debuted at #8 on the RIANZ Album Charts and was the #1 New Zealand album that week. Previous singles Alligator Skin andGather Yourselves both debuted at #1 on the Radioscope New Zealand Rock Charts.
Villainy are no slouches on the stage either - they have supported Incubus, Billy Talent, Seether and Shihad.
The Australian release date for Villainy's Dead Sight album will be announced
