Groeni Announce New Single/Video 'Hedre', New EP 'Hinde' & October shows

24 September 2015 - 0 Comments

Hotly-tipped Wellington live electronic trio Groeni have just released their new single Hedre and its music video. They're also announcing the release of their new EP Hinde on the 1st of October and several New Zealand shows soon afterwards.

The directorial and production debut from young Wellington designer Joel Fear, the Hedre video depicts a god's eye view of a series of rotating black and white landscapes. Juxtaposed with abstract imagery, the treatment spirals and pulses in nuanced synergy with the song's techno-naturalistic rhythms and woozy synthesisers. Together, they perfectly set the stage for singer Alexander Green's angelic and exploratory vocal refrains. "With previous Groeni music it has always been 'this thing makes me sad or angry', but this time it's from more of an outside perspective on feelings" Alexander explains.

Groeni have been releasing music and performing since 2012, but really hit their stride earlier this year when Germany's Project Mooncircle/HHV.DE released their second EP Hewn. Since then, their blend of soul post-dubstep, spiritual dream-folk and engaging sound art  has been championed by BBC 3 & 6 (UK),KCRW (LA), prestigious soundcloud channel Future Garage and The 405 (UK), amongst other radio stations and media outlets worldwide.

While Groeni began as a solo project, after Alexander's long-time musician friends Mike Isaacs and James Paul joined him on stage, things became fully collaborative. "Between the three of us, we are developing a way to utilise our collective knowledge and perspective that one person perhaps couldn't achieve," Mike says.

Recorded and mixed at their respective home studios, Hinde sees Groeni hitting new peaks. Influenced by the abstract techno and beat-pop of Blawan, Borrowed CS and I'lls, Groeni's latest iteration is warmer, grittier and more direct. It's 21st century dance music that never disregards the power of classic songwriting. Hinde will be on sale from the 1st of October via bandcamp, itunes and all good digital outlets.
