Twinkles (NYC) is Leigh Fitzjames, an Auckland born and raised pop artist. Her first single and music video, In My Dreams will be released internationally on Monday 30 November.
The song was mixed in NYC's Quad Studios (notoriously known as the studio where Tupac was shot) and mixed by Wellington born, Grammy nominated Engineer Lance Powell, who has worked with major hip hop artists such as Mary J Blige and Akon. Twinkle's full EP will be released in early 2016.
The video, filmed on Rockaway Beach by Adam Nunez and Shihan Fey, features "contact improv", a contemporary dance form choreographed by Twinkles herself. A dramatic counterpoint to the song which features synth strings, pad drums and grand piano along with Twinkles' Madonna-esque vocals. Twinkles learnt about contact improv at The University of Auckland.
Reviewer Mike Mineo from Obscure Sound writes:
"With a haunting piano lead quickly accompanied by strings and synth trickles, In My Dreams is enthralling from the get-go, fluid vocals flow smoothly over the piano and synths, with the bridge around 01:10 marking a successful manoeuvre that allows the sensual vocals to stand out more. The piano-laden atmosphere and stirring vocals bring to mind Janelle Monae, if she was asked to score the new Bond theme song"

A recent interview on AA Hip Hop tells how the artist had a difficult time moving the USA, spending time in India and Thailand while in limbo waiting for her 01 visa to come into effect. Since moving to NYC she has had a successful artistic career including acting on a feature length film starring Lydia Hearst (Supermodel and judge of The Face) and Adam Lavorgna (Seventh Heaven).
The video for In My Dreams is slated to launch online on November 30 and will be available on iTunes, Spotify and all major online streams.
