Marlon Williams has
released the stunning new video for latest single Hello Miss Lonesome, described by The
Fader as "a cross between a Sia video and a bar fight".
The video sees Williams in an abandoned house, being thrown, punched, coddled
and closing with a naked fight scene that raises many questions while leaving
little to the imagination.
“I have never felt so sore as the day after the shoot,” Williams says. “It took
a while to recover from being thrown around like that. I really enjoyed that
physicality, though.” As solid as the song is, it’s worth tipping the hat to
his bold performance chops, too, and direction by Damien Shatford. About his
very real undressing, Williams added, “The nudity is incidental I think, and I
like that it plays into the naturalness of the theatre. I'm being stripped down
by these characters—these different parts of my psyche—and being left alone by
myself.”
The video comes on the eve of a huge run of shows down the East Coast of
Australia, plus a run of dates with Paul Kelly, Lucinda Williams and Kasey
Chambers for A Day On The Green.
Over the next two weeks, he will also perform at the New Zealand Music Awards
where he is the leading nominee up for 5 awards, before attending the ARIA
Awards where is up for Best Blues & Roots Album for 2015.
Williams will then turn his attention to the rest of the world in 2016, with
his debut album released through Dead Oceans on February 19th and his debut
headline tour of North America on sale this Friday.
2015 might have been a huge year for Marlon Williams, but it is just the
beginning.
