Outside In’s debut EP The Nature of Dreams delivers a rich tapestry of psychedelic and progressive pop sounds, taking listeners on a journey into the depths of their imaginations and beyond.
Highlighted by the soaring vocals of singer Mikey
Brown, the Auckland four-piece combine layered soundscapes punctuated by
odd-time signatures with lyrics of subtle and abstract beauty.
Revealing influences by Radiohead, A Perfect Circle, Muse, Pink Floyd and
Incubus, The Nature
of Dreams is an original offering from a truly unique band.
The EP’s first single Sophie’s Ghost pays homage to Brown’s cousin Sophie who, hypersensitive to the presence of energy left behind by the dead, often sees ghostly apparitions and visions of spirits as she tries to sleep.
The song’s music video was directed by Giacomo Martelli, whose short film Coral was recently nominated for the NZIFF prize at the New Zealand International Film Festival. The video features Sophie as herself and was shot at Silo Park in Auckland’s Wynard Quarter.
