Five NZ acts will get a career boost at the annual Radio Broadcasters Association Showcase as part of NZ Music Month 2004.
Amber Claire, Adeaze, eight, Lucid 3 and The Have will all perform to a one off captive audience of influential radio programmers and music selectors from around the country at the Carlton Hotel, 1 May 2004.
“The RBA showcase is the place to be seen,” says NZ On Air Music Manager Brendan Smyth.
"It is a great opportunity to introduce new acts when all those radio people from around the country are in the one place at the one time."
Past years’ performers include Brooke Fraser, P Money and Scribe, Elemeno P, Carly Binding, Anika Moa and Nesian Mystik who all went on to be commercially successful after making their RBA showcase debut.
“All the acts who have showcased early in their careers have gone on to have success at radio,” says Smyth.
Criteria for applications included current radio priority acts, ‘up and comers’ or those with a chance of making a big impact with commercial radio. Representatives from the NZ music industry including APRA, NZ On Air and NZ Music Industry Commission selected the artists.
Traditionally, the RBA showcase kicks off NZ Music Month activities at which radio has been at the core for the past four years.
