Music News - Amplifier to close down at end of month

21 December 2015 - 0 Comments

After 16 years as New Zealand’s leading independent download site, Amplifier.co.nz will stop trading at the end of the year.

Founded in 1999, Amplifier.co.nz was one of the southern hemisphere’s earliest and most innovative online music stores, and the home of New Zealand music. It was a one-stop shop where you could catch up on Kiwi music news, listen to your favourite homegrown musicians, watch locally-grown music videos, buy CDs and legal MP3 music downloads.

Amplifier cemented long lasting relationships with independent musicians and labels, working with more than 3000 New Zealand artists, from Scribe, P-Money and Fat Freddy's Drop to Goodnight Nurse, Steriogram and The Datsuns.

With a significant shift in the way fans now consume music, the closure of the Amplifier website means a more concentrated focus on partner company DRM NZ (formerly known as Amplifier Digital).

As the country’s preferred iTunes aggregator and YouTube Multi-Channel Network, DRM NZ has expanded upon the foundation built by Amplifier to become the leading digital distribution and content management outfit in New Zealand.

DRM NZ also works with Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play, and Amazon. Moving beyond strictly music into the realms of audio/visual content, DRM NZ has launched a revamped website at http://www.drm.co.nz/

Amplifier.co.nz will remain active and open for business until December 31, 2015, after which the site will cease sales.

Royalty reports for artists and stock-returns will commence across a three-month period until March 31, 2016, allowing plenty of time for requested invoices to be attended to.

Artists represented independently on the site over the years can write to [email protected] regarding royalty reports.
