Kelsely Abaza is an Egyptian composer and producer of avant-garde electronic music working in New Zealand.
Inviting Abaza to feature on their platform in early 2016, Mideast Tunes, the largest website for Middle Eastern and North African underground music, praised the composer's work as “exquisitely complex...avant-garde experimental electro.” His work has similarly been well-received by other prominent Egyptian reviewers.
Abaza performed Experimental 2016 at Christchurch’s Sonic Art venue The Auricle on 30 January 2016. An album entitled Women Have White Teeth will be released by late February 2016. It will constitute Abaza’s first full-length musical publication.
Women Have White Teeth is inspired by a short story by the renowned Egyptian author Ihsan Abdel Quddous. It shall comprise a combination of live recordings from the recent concert and bonus studio recordings. Several tracks will be made available for free download. This will include the composer’s two recent singles, Mood up the Mode and Amira, as well Kiwi Kids, a composition that received 240,000 plays on MySpace alone.
Four music videos are already available on Youtube and Facebook and an album preview including excerpts from the concert and an 18 minute radio interview is now available on Bandcamp.
Further, Michael Louis, a track from Kelsley Abaza’s delayed release Ath-thabāt (persistence) is also downloadable free of charge on Bandcamp and Muzic.net.nz. Michael Louis reached RDU’s Top Ten on 3 February 2016.
