Kahungunu Maranga is the latest release from Kahungungu manu tioriori, Toni Huata.
Available as of Waitangi Day 2016, Kahungunu Maranga is a 3 song EP in Te Reo Māori, flavoured with a swing-jazz sound and a touch of country and released with the support of Te Māngai Pāho.
Toni Huata’s beautiful harmonies and arrangement of these 3 waiata written by her forefathers, are an ode to tīpuna, whānau and Iwi within the spirit of love and their legacy.
Written by Toni’s grandfather Te Okanga Kahutapere (Aussie) Huata, Ō Tākitimu is a song of encouragement for Kahungunu people to rise up.
Uplifting and full of heart and spirit, Ō Tākitimu is poignant in it’s timing, as Ngāti Kahungunu will be hosting Te Matatini 2017 for the second time ever since 1983.
Mohaka has a country feel, stirring fond memories from a childhood of waiata and line dancing.
Ngā Rori is a delicate waltz taking you on a journey through the winding roads of Mohaka.
Working alongside notable producer Paddy Free once again, with her rendition of these songs, Toni Huata takes you back to her roots and her core love for her family and Iwi – Ngāti Kahungunu.
Kahungunu Maranga is available from Waitangi Day, where Toni will be performing live at the Big 9 in Hastings.
This new EP from Toni Huata will make the perfect new edition to your music collection.
