Wellington progressive folk trio Pales announce the release of their new album Don’t Be So Nice and short Video/Single.
Don’t Be So Nice is a 12 song album crafted by the band’s Scott Maynard and is being independently released on May 6th.
“sparse but sophisticated”
“When you look into Pales’ music and its visual presentation, it quickly becomes clear they’ve accessed a synergy between name, sound and look.”
The video for the final track on the albumPales Song is a beautiful visual representation of the song by Wellington based artist Daniel Boobyer. The song itself serves as an exciting taster for the upcoming album.
Bringing a fresh and innovative sound to a familiar setting, Pales started as a “no rules” way to try out the new songs they had each individually been working on. Inspiration for the members of Pales has come from musicians such as Tiny Ruins (NZ), Other (NZ), Seth Frightening (NZ), Elliott Smith and Grizzly Bear.
After playing a few shows, developing a sound as a trio, and with Mike's album about to release, Pales came up with the concept where each member would write and produce an album of all their own compositions and arrangements to release and perform under this name. With their debut album It’s Cold Outside released in late 2013, Pales now share their new album that is a collection of home recordings masterfully mixed by Mike Gibson and Darren Maynard.
