Just one week after its release, songstress Anika Moa’s latest recording has shot up the charts to occupy the number 1 slot in the New Zealand albums chart.
The 12 fun tracks for the little ones on Songs for Bubbas 2 have quickly proven a hit around the country – and the success has come on the back of an unusual approach to producing and promoting Anika’s seventh album.
“I honestly can’t believe Songs For Bubbas 2 is sitting at number 1. The charts are for adult music. What is a little kid’s album doing there? I guess it shows that at the end of the day, mothers do need awesome tunes for their kids,” says Anika Moa.
It all started a little differently with a Pledge Me campaign, generously supported by Anika’s many fans, followed by an earthly creative process which saw Anika crafted the songs in cottages right around Aotearoa.
The result is her second children’s album which follows on from the first Songs for Bubbas released in 2013.
Coming directly from the heart and packed with imagination, the album takes listeners on a fun journey which has them escaping wild animals, being popped in a witch’s stew, encountering a naughty martial arts obsessed rat who likes to Chop! Chop! and even checking in with a loveable rogue of a Taniwha.
A mother herself, Anika’s biggest source of inspiration for the songs are her own children, further reflecting the passion which has gone in to crafting this album.
“There’s no better focus group or enthusiastic participants than a group of happy kids singing and dancing along. These 12 songs have earned my children’s personal stamp of approval and it’s so rewarding to see youngsters across New Zealand enjoying the music too,” she smiles.
“It’s thanks to the support of fans young and old thatSongs for Bubbas 2 has come together so well. I’d like to say a big thank you to every one of you,” Anika adds.
Taking the personal approach which has defined every aspect of the album, Anika is presently on the road with a unique ‘In Between Nap Times Tour’. With 18 fixtures taking place outside the hours little ones lie down for a nap, the tour is an opportunity for fun, festivity and close interaction with Anika and the music.
