Last week Anika Moa’s Songs for Bubbas 2 was the top Kiwi album, this week it achieves an even greater feat, finishing as the #1 album in New Zealand.
It’s the first #1 album for Anika since her debut Thinking Room topped the charts in 2001.
“The number one has blown my mind. I am humbled and proud of my work. It's good to be hanging with the likes of Adele and Justin Bieber in the charts. Naturally,” enthuses Anika.
The album follows the success of her first children’s album Songs for Bubbas 1 which, despite a 2013 release date, features on the chart this week at #14.
The 12 fun tracks for the little ones on Songs for Bubbas 2 have quickly proven a hit around the country – and the success has come on the back of an unusual approach to producing and promoting Anika’s seventh album.
A Pledge Me campaign, generously supported by Anika’s fans, was followed by an earthly creative process which saw Anika crafted the songs in cottages all around Aotearoa.
She is presently on the road with the ‘In Between Nap Times Tour’. Over the school holidays, 18 fixtures are taking place at venues suggested by fans on Anika’s Facebook page. The tour is an opportunity for fun, festivity and close interaction with Anika and the music.
“'The last few months have been very rewarding for me as an artist who takes my music where my heart goes. I am now releasing music that is appealing to the younger generation and it feels surreal that it has taken Aotearoa bubbas by storm,” Anika adds.
