They pulled off
one of last year’s biggest comebacks. Now the UK’s mighty Leftfield are
returning to New Zealand for an intimate DJ set at Neck of the Woods in Auckland on November 17, guaranteed
to blow the minds of anyone lucky enough to snap up tickets.
The dance music heavyweights returned to the fold last year with a new album
and live shows - including a headlining spot at this year’s Splore Festival -
reminding club-goers of the 90s why they were such a ground breaking act and
winning over a whole new generation of party people.
“As loud and as distinctive
as ever, the 90s techno act has not so much moved forward as waited for the
rest of the world to catch up” - The Guardian
Throughout the 90s Leftfield were untouchable live and on record. Their debut album LEFTISM remains one of
the defining statements of 90s dance music, a gloriously inter-woven
bombardment of musical styles and immaculate grooves, nominated for a Mercury
Prize and later voted in the Top 10 greatest albums of all time by readers of Q magazine.
The 90s were all but over when the second Leftfield album appeared in Autumn 1999.
RHYTHM AND STEALTH worked with a darker hue and more pronounced techno
influence, guests including Roots
Manuva, MC
Cheshire Cat and Afrika
Bambaataa on first single ‘Afrika Shox’, which reached the UK
Top 10. The album - like its predecessor - was nominated for a Mercury
Prize.
Now solely led by Neil Barnes, Leftfield released their third album ALTERNATIVE LIGHT SOURCE last year.
“Barnes has rewarded the
faithful while showing the young bucks how it's done. It's recognisably
Leftfield from the off but fresh enough, and just damn good enough, to justify
its existence in 2015” - Clash
New Zealanders got to witness the power of Leftfield first hand when they headlined Splore 2016. Now they
can see the mighty masters of dance music in the intimate setting that is
Auckland’s Neck of the Woods. But be warned - with act of this magnitude, spare
tickets will be hard to come by.
