Here's the latest round of NZ On Air funding decisions - straight from the horses mouth so to speak...
Music Videos
This is the first funding round for the new (2004/2005) funding year. The good news is that the budget for has been increased for doing music videos in the new funding year – we are budgeting on doing 140 projects this year compared with the 120 in last year’s budget and 110 in the previous year.
In this first round for 2004/2005, we got an all-time record number of applications – 136 songs!
Of the 136, 50 made it to the first shortlist. That’s 50 contenders for one of the 23-24 grants available. In this first round, we will do 24 projects.
Each project will get $5,000 to make a music video. Decisions are based on airplay potential after testing the songs with music video broadcasters and taking into account current radio priorities.

Again – this is the first funding round for the new funding year. Another huge mailbag – 229 applications.
The first shortlisting gave us 40 songs; the second resulted in 27 of those 40 going through to the third round. Of those 27, we will do 11 projects.
Each project will get $5,000 to record a song for radio. Decisions are based on commercial radio airplay potential, using commercial radio expertise and experience and testing the songs with commercial radio programmers.

Radio Hits
Based on airplay in the April/June 2004 quarter.
Another 5 Radio Hits rebates for songs that have picked up significant airplay on commercial radio in the second quarter of 2004. Each project will get $5,000 (or the actual cost of recording and releasing the single, whichever is the lesser).
Decisions are based on analysing the RadioScope airplay charts which are in turn based on airplay returns from 146 radio stations around the country.
Remember that songs that have picked up significant airplay in this quarter but have already been funded via the Phase Four Album or New Recording schemes are not eligible for Radio Hits funding as well.
