Sadly, the building which has been home to Base FM since 2009 has been marked for development. They have until the end of November to find a new home, build a new studio and relocate the entire station, in order to keep broadcasting and promoting great music across NZ and the world.
To assist in funding the relocation and a potential frequency boost, Base FM have set up a Givealittle Fundraising Page to cover this expensive mission.
Base FM is 100% independently owned & operated, with a small team which provides assistance to over 80 volunteer DJs. Since 2004, the station has broadcast on 107.3FM to our neighbourhood in Grey Lynn/Ponsonby, via Freeview Ch71 nationwide and an online live stream worldwide.
This is their neighbourhood, and one which has seen rapid change & development, yet the inner city suburbs are still the core Base FM listenership. Their extended community includes not only individuals that enjoy the musical selections, but also small boutique businesses, venues, promoters, and events based in the area.
“No matter where we go, moving an entire radio station is a lot of work and expensive”, says Jasmin Ziedan, the Managing Director of Base FM.
Base FM are seeking financial support for some of the challenges ahead:
- Secure a new location
& long term lease
- Design & build a new broadcast studio
- Hire broadcast technicians & create new links to existing transmitter
- Labour costs for builders/electricians
- Install security monitoring systems
- Refurbish new premises
Base FM is essential for New Zealand's music scene both locally and globally. Now we need the creative community to support us back and ‘Give A Little’ to support the cause.
