Formed in the wake of Hamilton's rising tide of modern metal and hardcore, Seas Of Conflict started making waves in the New Zealand underground community in 2011; quickly proving that these impressionable, fresh minds were a creative force that commanded attention. The boys quickly aimed to get their music out to the public as soon as possible, so they pieced together their debut musical effort: the self-funded and friend-produced Bleak Humanity EP; released while they were still in high school. While the EP was the bait, it was the high energy live shows that started attracting the attention of promoters. Seas began to ’wow’ larger audiences over the following years as they gained NZ support slots for metal and hardcore heavyweights including Thy Art Is Murder, Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Deez Nuts; as well as the likes of Ocean Grove, Prepared Like A Bride, Sienna Skies, and A Plea For Purging. The release of their late-2014 single Leviathan saw a new, forward thinking Seas Of Conflict; adding depth and colour to contrast against a devastating, rhythmic soundscape.
Now, they emerge with Vestige, a dark, heavy journey through an emotional, abstract concept: "It's about the constant struggle of coming to terms with the chaos of life - things are constantly changing; we're often still hurting from the past, yet life still comes hurtling towards us." Michael (Guitarist/Songwriter) explains, "The title 'Vestige' refers to an object - the 'character' of the album, in this case - that is a remnant of the past, and doesn't belong in the present. It's a journey of emotionally coming to grips with the past in order to face the constant onslaught of change that becomes the future."
Produced and mixed by audio-extraordinaire Zorran Mendonsa, known for his work with local and international acts including Antagonist A.D., Skyharbor, Saving Grace, Set On End and Blindspott. Vestige is mastered by Systematic Productions’ Ermin Hamidovic (Periphery, Devin Townsend Project, Animals as Leaders)
This 2017 release promises immersion into a heavy, epic atmosphere with slick production executed with passion and sincerity.
