Play It Strange Announces Songwriting Competition Winner

A song about unrequited love has won 17-year-old Josh Turner from Whakatane High School first place in the first Play It Strange Secondary Schools Songwriting Competition from a massive 270 entries.

Five of the top 10 songs were performed by NZ artists including Jordan Luck, Opshop's Jason Kerison, NZ Idol runner-up Michael Murphy and True Bliss's Jo Cotton.

The four judges were Brooke Fraser, Jordan Luck, Phil Judd and Feleti Stickson-Pua.

The top 5 are as follows:

1st: Josh Turner, Whakatane High
2nd: Justin Pitt/Ben Shuker, Taradale High
3rd: Sam George-Allen, Northcote College
4th: Jeff Parsons, Waiuku College
5th: Yhana Reweti, Tokoroa High
