19 May 2017 - 0 Comments

The legendary Grammy award winning Deep Forest (France) will be playing one show only on his first trip to New Zealand. Deep Forest will be headlining a brand new day festival to be held on the lawn of Corban Estate Art Center in Henderson. Other music artists on the day include Gaudi (Italy/UK), and many more to be announced. The musical selection is designed to make this event stand out from the norm and will have a definite flavor, flow and journey to it. This is a family friendly event and we encourage families to bring their children. Under 14’s will be free to enjoy the experience with their parents.

The event will feature one of the most beautiful stages ever made in New Zealand and an art filled environment that will light up when the sun goes down. Aum Productions is becoming known for its extravagant visual productions, sound quality and attention to detail. AUM The Electric Garden will be no exception.

Deep Forest’s story began in the North of France in the early 90s when Eric Mouquet and Michel Sanchez first met, two musicians fascinated by ethnic music which they mixed with their own sounds. Deep Forest was born.

Their albums have sold over 10 million copies. Their first self-titled Grammy nominated album was released in 1992, with Sweet Lullaby being the smash single, which would put Deep Forest on the world stage.

Deep Forest creates a new kind of world music, sometimes called ethnic electronica. Their sound has been described as “ethno-introspective ambient world music”.

In 1994 Deep Forest were nominated for a Grammy Award in the category for Best World Music Album, and in 1995 they won the prestigious Award for the album Boheme (first French band to win a Grammy Award).

The band also became World Music Awards Winner for accomplishing the highest world sales as a French group.
From 1996 to 2002 Deep Forest released 4 albums on Sony Music.

In 2005 Michel Sanchez left the band to start his solo career.

Eric Mouquet continues to captivate audiences with the Deep Forest (Comparsa, Pacifique, Music Detected, KusanoRan) outfit to the present day. The year 2003 sees Eric Mouquet collaborating with Josh Groban on the album Closer (more than 7 millions copies) then in 2006 on the album Awake(another top selling album). Herbie Hancock played his legendary electric piano on the song “Machine”.

In 2008 Deep Forest produced and released Deep Brasil, this album is collaboration with Brazilian artist Flavio Dell Isola. It was also the launch of Eric’s own label imprint Deep Projects.

In 2012 Deep Forest Collaborates with the legendary Joe Zawinul’s band Syndicate on the album Files under Zawinul. He also compose and produce tracks for famous drummer Paco Sery on the album La vraie Vie.

In 2013 Deep Forest released Deep Africa. Deep Africa features artists, Lokua Kanza, Blick Bassy, Olyza, Wasis Diop, Zama Magudulela, Dany de Mouataba. Deep Africa seamlessly fuses Mouquet’s atmospheric compositions with a spiritual and rhythmic mélange of African chanting, percussion and the sounds of nature.

In 2014 Deep Forest released an intriguing album titled ‘Deep India’ in collaboration with India’s pride Santoor player Rahul Sharma. The Deep India album consists of eight brand new compositions that capture the rhythms of folk melodies from across the country and each track is given a special Deep Forest treatment. The music draws inspiration from ethnic folk songs that are rooted within the regions of Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, North East and South India among others. Deep Africa sifts like sand through the continent’s vast landscape of sound, character, expression and timeless emotion while subtly enveloping it in Mouquet’s unique layers of sound.
