Over a 15-year music career,
Grayson
Gilmour’s work has won him acclaim and audiences around the
world. His signature fusion of a subtle pop sensibility and the inventive
exploration of sonic detritus/ambience has seen Grayson build a dedicated
fan base and admiration from music critics worldwide. And not just for his solo
work - also his band So
So Modern, and more recently, his compositions for film have
commanded much attention.
Fresh from the announcement of recent single
Hundred Waters hitting the top
twenty in the 2017
Silver Scrolls, Flying Nun Records are very pleased to announce
today’s release of Grayson Gilmour's latest album
Otherness. Gilmour’s
third on the label,
Otherness is available now on LP, CD and digitally,
along with a very limited special edition LP on milky-clear vinyl, featuring
the striking artwork of Henrietta
Harris, printed on a vellum sleeve to compliment the cover.
It doesn’t end there -
Otherness also features a companion
web sampler - a beautiful and
intuitive platform offering listeners the chance to toy with GG’s samples and
create their own
Otherness loops. There’s little seen like this in the world,
and serves to further express Gilmour’s explorative interest in interactive
art-forms.
Otherness follows on from 2014’s critically acclaimed
Infinite Life! (nominated for both the NZ Music Awards and the 2015 Taite Prize) - released
while Gilmour was completing his Masters in Composition at the
NZSM. “Intellectual pop music but not without a real heart and
soulfulness, increasingly revealed on each listen”, praised
Doubtful Sounds. Otherness showcases Gilmour at his strongest yet - a wonderfully
rich new album, exploring the intimate entwining of word and sound; more inventive
yet direct than ever. The first glimpse of the album came with the gentle
dancefloor shuffle of ‘Hundred Waters’, available to listen/view in stunning
360° video / spatial audio. This was followed
by immersive late-night love song ‘Blow Back’.
A spectacular second 360° spatial-audio video for the album single
Otherness is set for release very soon. Made by a Taipei-based team of animators, it
features more than 1500 hand-painted frames to stunning visual impact.
With a full-band show in the works and remixes to come from Kody Nielson's
Silicon and Borrowed CS, there’s no limit to where
Otherness might
travel - best dive in and explore what is Grayson Gilmour’s most ambitious and
immersive album yet.
Otherness is out now on Flying Nun Records worldwide on LP, CD, Digital -
along with a limited edition coloured vinyl. Grab Grayson
Gilmour’s
Otherness in all its glorious incarnations from
Flying Out, and take a look at the very
special
