Paua will be releasing their latest single Play By Your Rules through all online outlets on October 6th, celebrating with a nine-date tour of New Zealand’s North Island and South-East Queensland. Having returned to Australia from a successful New Zealand tour earlier this year, which included the sold-out iconic One Love Festival, Paua have since been focusing on writing and recording fresh material.
Play By Your Rules touches on the distressing imbalance and injustice of demographic hierarchy that is universally present through a simplistic and catchy tune. It’s upbeat, cheerful, summer vibe is like a message of hope and understanding despite the contrast of the lyrical content and message. The island reggae feel with boppy ukulele and driving beat merges with an old-school influence reminiscent of classic Maori showband The Hi Marks.
Residing in Brisbane, Australia, Paua includes Maori heritage hailing from Aotearoa (New Zealand) combined with a multicultural collective from Australia and Philippines. Although band members grew up in varying musical backgrounds, they connected through their mutual love of reggae music.
Many of Paua’s releases have hit #1 on the New Zealand and Australian iTunes reggae charts and numerous have become household favorites that audiences recite word-for-word. Having shared the stage on proclaimed festivals alongside reggae giants such as Steel Pulse, Black Slate, Big Mountain, Julian Marley, The Green, Katchafire, Third World, Kolohe Kai & Tarrus Riley, Paua are forever enlightening the masses.
