The stunning new single from Julia Deans Walking in the Sun is out now - her first solo release since her 2010 Taite Prize nominated album Modern Fables.
Recorded, mixed, and produced by Julia in her home studio with partner David Wernham, Walking in the Sun is a track full of sharp observations about the way in which society seems to be heading backwards instead of forwards.
Recruiting a team that includes the talents of Nick Gaffaney and Steve Bremner on drums, Mareea Patterson on bass, Anna Coddington on backing vocals, and Wernham on guitar, Julia’s distinctively versatile voice shines on Walking in the Sun, reflective of her development as an artist over the last 25 years.
Beginning her career as front-person for Fur Patrol, Julia has cemented her place as one of Aotearoa’s most iconic performers, and her solo material has been embraced with critical acclaim and rave reviews. Julia Deans previewed her new material in an intimate showcase earlier this week, with her performance being likened to a “spiritual awakening” (Ambient Light), further heightening anticipation for the impressive songbird’s new offerings.
Available now, Walking in the Sun is the first single from Julia Dean’s exciting sophomore album We Light Fire – more details to follow.
