On Screen celebrates the New Zealand Music Awards with a collection of our
best music videos.
Spanning 34 years, and 34 titles, the collection brings together winners of the
Tui for Best Music Video, honouring the directors, artists and songs that have
taken out the coveted award.

Winner of the very
first Best Music Video Tui, Outlook
for Thursday was directed by Andrew Shaw. Featured are a
gun-toting Dave Dobbyn, speedo-clad Peter 'Rooda' Warren, and a great
snapshot of 80s Auckland. |

Filmed in black
and white, this clip scored a double-header in 1994: it was voted best
video at both the NZ Music Awards, and the NZ Film and Television
Awards. In it, director Josh Frizzell mixes images of Paki singing with

earlier awards with clips for his band Supergroove. Sophie is one of a

2017’s Best Music
Video Award winner, Joel Kefali, is also a fourth-time Tui recipient. Joel
has previously won for his work on Lorde’s Royals and The Naked and Famous’ The Sun and Punching in A Dream (with Campbell Hooper, as half of the creative partnership Special
Problems). At this year's Artisan Awards he took out the Tui with this
great clip for Auckland band LEISURE. |
