International juggernaut Freddy's have relished being back in front of fans at home this summer with appearances at Rhythm and Alps, Kanui Road Vineyard, and Hagley Park in Christchurch.
Joining the action at Villa Maria will be sizzling hot band from
Melbourne, Hiatus
Kaiyote. The music royalty fan club for the band include Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Andersson.Paak. The
band have
labelled their sound 'future
soul' - akin to a progressive neo-soul group with a little left-of-center
hip-hop production. Fronted by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Nai Palm, the
band also features bassist Paul Bender, drummer Perrin Moss, and keyboardist
Simon Mavin (also of the
Bamboos). Now with two albums and one E.P. released
Hiatus Kaiyote can boast a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance
(2013), charting on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and a slew of
new fans.
Simon Mavin from Hiatus Kaiyote adds, “Super
excited to be coming back to NZ. We had a great run of shows last time,
and to be sharing a bill with Fat Freddy's drop on our return; I couldn't think
of a better match up.”
Hiatus Kaiyote will be performing at 7.35pm.
Dubbed "the godfather of club culture", Norman Jay MBE returns
for his second NZ summer tour with Freddys. Norman Jay is unquestionably
one of the most respected and popular DJs in the world today. Co- founder
of the legendary Good
Times Sound System and London dance music station KISS FM, Jay
fostered the ‘Rare
Groove’ scene pushing the boundaries of the UK’s emerging club
culture. Awarded an MBE for services to deejaying and music, in 2017 he
released ‘Mister Good
Times’ capturing the true spirit of Good Times, and on
Saturday night from 6.00pm will be delivering nothing but good times.
Gates open at 5.00pm and Logg Cabin will be kicking off on
the wheels of steel to usher in the great musical acts to follow;
This weekend's Villa Maria show is the third last show for Freddys New Zealand tour with the finale two sold out shows at Black Barn on Waitangi weekend. Then it’s back to studio lock down working on a new album and preparing for two European and UK tours later in the year.
