Today, Madeline North aka So Below releases her highly anticipated new single Visions, the fourth and final track from her freshly released second EP II which is out now.
Visions is a four way kiwi collaboration with co-writers Chelsea Jade and Sam McCarthy, with mixing and mastering done by Aaron Short. Sonically channeling North’s love of bands such as Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead, Visions conveys a sparse sultry feel – a juxtaposition to the joyous pop overtones of previous single Close. Sam McCarthy (Boyboy) explains, “When we wrote Visions, Maddie was playing us tracks that she liked and I noticed a bit of an industrial theme. It was a fun palette to play with because it contrasted so nicely with the delicacy of her vocals.” Chelsea Jade further expands on the songwriting process, “I always feel like writing with Maddie is like entering deep space. It’s very dark and visceral.”
The message behind the song reflects a universally important theme, and serves as a reminder to stay true to who you are. North explains - “This track is about not getting complacent and stuck in your ways. To continually try to be the best version of yourself – or you might end up leaving behind the person you really want to be.”
The EP II is a collection of So Below’s previous singles, which have sparked attention and earned rave reviews across the world with support from Spotify Canada, USA, NZ and AU. Tastemaker sites such as EARMILK, Refinery29, The 405, Clash Music, Indie Shuffle and DIY Magazine have further propelled So Below to an international audience with Buzzfeed USA also naming So Below as one of 18 upcoming artists to watch for 2018.
So Below has just been announced as supporting act for US buzz act Now, Now on their UK and European May tour.
