Kiwi
troubadour
Tom Cunliffe has
today released
Burning
Blood, the second single from his upcoming album
Template For Love, out
on April 13.
Cunliffe will
follow-up the album’s release with a six-date NZ tour that takes in both
islands, starting at the Wine
Cellar in Aucklandon April 13and winding up in Lyttelton Records in Christchurch on April 28. See full list
of dates and venues below.
Burning Blood showcases Cunliffe’s
knack for blending catchy, warm melodies with compelling lyrics. It’s
accompanied by a beautifully shot video, directed by Harvey Hayes and
co-starring
Reb Fountain.
It is set in and around Auckland, where Cunliffenow calls home.
The video has premiered on Under
The Radar - watch

Burning Blood and the already released
This
Table Is A River (which has featured on Hauraki and the
B-nets) both set the scene for a solid collection of songs, which make up Cunliffe’s second
full-length album
Template For Love.
The album was produced by Ben
Edwards and Dave
Khan, both renowned for their work with the likes of
Marlon Williams and
Tami Neilson. It was
recorded in Edwards’ studio in Lyttelton.
“It almost didn’t happen – Dave, Ben (Woolley) and Gus (Agars) were supposed to
be playing a bunch of festivals with Marlon (Williams) in Russia, but they
couldn’t get the visas. So suddenly they had a couple of weeks free to make a
record,” says Cunliffe.
“We were joined by Dan Luscombe over from Melbourne and we piled into Ben’s
studio to make some music!"
The record stays true to the qualities of Cunliffe’s 2016 debut
Howl And Whisper, but it
does come with a more varied and bigger sound, which audiences at his six-date
Template For Love tour
can witness firsthand throughout April.
