Kiwi's Grant Hislop joins leaders from the radio, music and media industries next week in California at the first annual MUSEXPO, an international music and media forum.
Hailed as the United Nations of Music and Media, MUSEXPO has key representatives from all over the world attending. It's focus is on high- level music and media professionals including label presidents, A& R, bookers, promoters, artists, managers and radio programmers.
Hislop, the manager of the newly launched Kiwi Network and highly regarded in the industry, is the only representative from the NZ radio industry invited to attend as part of the Global Radio Forum.
"The organisers have done a great job of getting a whole bunch of like-minded heavy hitters together in one place," says Hislop.
"I'm really excited to be part of it and I can't wait to build on some existing relationships and get some new ones underway."
With almost 20 years in the radio and music industries, Hislop founded Coastline FM and The Rock and was a founding shareholder of Radioworks New Zealand, which is now Canwest Radioworks. Hislop has been involved with Warner Music as Head of Labels and A&R and radio programming across many radio stations including Radio Hauraki, ZM Network, The Rock Network and the Channel Z Network. His artist management portfolio includes goodshirt, Pluto and up and coming songwriter Sarah Brown. He also publishes New Zealand Music Industry Directory – The Index.
Hislop will take part on a panel of proactive radio programmers during the Global Radio Forum, including Colin Martin, Head of Music, BBC Radio 2 (UK), Alex Jones-Donelly, Head of Music BBC Radio 1 (UK), Rob Scott, Project Manager Triple J Radio (Australia), Michael Steele, Program Director KDLD “Indie 103.1FM” Los Angeles, Mark Hamilton Station Manager/PD KNRK Portland and Zane Lowe, BBC Radio/1 MTV Europe.
Each panelist will stake their reputation on a new artists - signed or unsigned - which they believe has the potential to be an international success. Hundreds of MUSEXPO delegates and worldwide media will be present at the forum.
MUSEXPO takes place at the Wyndham Bel Age in West Hollywood, California from May 1 – 4, 2005.
