Music News - RDU DJ's Thirst For Success

04 May 2005 - 0 Comments

RDU DJ Tristan Roake can now be officially referred to as 'Thirst Winner 2005' by friends and family after successfully combining "the discipline of DJing with the freedom of expression of the saxophone" to win the local talent quest last week with his drum n bass track 'That's Right'.

The 23-year-old runs a company called Urban Notion which produces live shows, including Thievery Corporation's recent Christchurch gig, and is also host of RDUshow Urban Notions, which airs Saturday nights from 9-11pm.

The day after winning the New Zealand comp he was flown to Sydney where he was a special guest DJ at the Australia Thirst final on Sunday night. He will now represent New Zealand at the Asia Pacific Thirst Regional semi-finals in Tokyo on May 4.

"I'm really excited about Tokyo and I've got a plan to take out the competition," says Tristan.

"I'll be working on a set with Gareth (Thirst judge/Sugarlicks Records head honcho) over the next few weeks to improve on my general DJing skills and sax and also do some research on the Japanese audience."
